Dr Laura Bennett Clinical Neuropsychology

Dr Bennett's Approach
Dr Bennett approaches her work with both scientific rigour
and respect for individual and neural differences.

Public conversations about autism, ADHD, and other
brain-related differences have grown rapidly in recent years.
These discussions have highlighted the strengths,
perspectives, and lived experiences of many neurodivergent individuals. At the same time, scientific understanding of neurodevelopment is still evolving, and these conditions
remain complex.

Dr Bennett does not work from a single ideological
framework. Her assessment and therapeutic work
integrates current research, careful clinical evaluation, and the experiences of individuals and their families. Diagnostic frameworks are used as practical tools to identify patterns in thinking, learning, behaviour, and emotional functioning, and to guide access to appropriate supports. They are not treated as fixed definitions of a person’s identity or ability.

Dr Bennett recognises that individuals may come to understand their neurodevelopmental differences in different ways, including through formal diagnosis, personal reflection or self-diagnosis, and lived experience. At the same time, a formal diagnosis is only provided when the available clinical evidence supports it. Assessment is a careful and independent process aimed at understanding an individual’s neurocognitive profile as accurately as possible, including patterns in attention, learning, emotional regulation, and thinking styles.

Assessment focuses on identifying these patterns, rather than simply determining whether someone fits a particular diagnostic category. In some cases this process leads to a diagnosis. In other cases it may result in a different explanation or recommendations for support without a diagnostic label. Each evaluation also considers the individual’s developmental history and environment, recognising that human neurodevelopment rarely fits neatly into diagnostic categories.
When providing therapy, Dr Bennett takes a similar approach. Treatment focuses on understanding the individual’s strengths, challenges, and goals, and developing practical strategies that support wellbeing and day-to-day functioning
