Dr Laura Bennett Clinical Neuropsychology

Clinical Neuropsychologist Sunshine Coast
Dr Laura Bennett is a Clinical Neuropsychologist based in Buderim, on the Sunshine Coast, with a lifelong passion for all things psychology-related. She completed her undergraduate psychology degree at Sydney University and her Doctorate in Clinical Neuropsychology and Clinical Psychology at the University of Queensland. She is board-certified and endorsed in both fields, registered with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA), and a member of various professional societies.
Dr Bennett's specialised training has equipped her with advanced skills in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning, and she typically draws upon a diverse array of disciplines and fields to assess cognition (thinking), emotions and behaviour, often for the purposes of diagnostic clarification and/or treatment planning.

Dr Bennett is deeply passionate about neurodivergence and brings this commitment to her work with children, teenagers, and adults. She is especially interested in the rich and complex ways neurodevelopmental conditions - such as autism, ADHD, and giftedness - interact with mental health, personality, and lived experience. Dr Bennett is known for her ability to tease apart the subtle and often misunderstood ways these factors express themselves across age, gender, intelligence, education, and personal history, including the impact of trauma and adversity. At the heart of her work is a deep respect for neurodivergent minds and a desire to help individuals move beyond labels to discover self-understanding, self-compassion, and the confidence to advocate for themselves in a world that often misinterprets their strengths.
Dr Bennett is also passionate about bringing dignity, insight, and humanity to the assessment and care of individuals experiencing cognitive decline, dementia, and complex mental health challenges. Dr Bennett takes a nuanced and compassionate approach, recognising how cognitive and emotional experiences are shaped by a person’s values, relationships, resilience, and identity over time. She is skilled at identifying subtle patterns of change and supporting individuals and their families to better understand what is happening. Her work is grounded in the belief that clear understanding and empathy can transform fear into clarity and empower people to make informed, values-aligned decisions about care, connection, and quality of life.

Dr Bennett has experience working in both hospital and private-practice settings. She co-owns Mind Matters Clinical Psychology, a private practice in Buderim, and works closely with the psychiatric team at Buderim Private Hospital. She co-founded the MHPN Sunshine Coast ADHD Professional Network in 2022, which meets quarterly.
